Adeline Arjad Cook started playing tennis in Austin, Texas in 2009, and quickly fell in love with the sport. After joining several USTA teams her rating quickly rose from 3.0 to 3.5 to 4.0 with lots of coaching, practice and LOVE on the court. She now lives in Beverly Hills with her husband Robert Jason Cook whom she met on the tennis court. They play 9.0 mixed together in Los Angeles, California.

How does the author describe her book?

"Welcome to more LOVE! In 2009 I found myself 50 pounds overweight, unhealthy, and most of all, relentlessly unhappy. Then I found tennis. Or maybe tennis found me? Either way, I have devotedly played singles and doubles ever since, first in Austin and now in Los Angeles. I admit I am completely obsessed. Not only has this wonderful game helped me lose weight and get fit and healthy, but has also made me a better woman.

Pay Attention. Watch - learn - discuss and shift your game with your partner so that you have a plan to execute together.

My time spent on the court has been truly life-changing. Its lessons and positive energy have helped me through challenging times (both mentally and physically) and how I've discovered some of the most amazing friendships. You'll be able to read about all of this and more in my inspirational tennis book I LOVE MY DOUBLES PARTNER!!! This inspirational compilation includes tales of 77 doubles partners whom I love and explains how you, too, can be a doubles partner to LOVE. Published by LOVE ALL MEDIA, I LOVE MY DOUBLES PARTNER!!! is an 8.5" x 8.5" vibrantly colored, fully-illustrated hardcover book with motivating quotes and personal insights throughout all 252 pages, a fantastic gift not only for yourself, but also your favorite tennis partner! www.ilovemydoublespartner.com"

What did I get out of reading this book?

I had the pleasure of playing mixed doubles with Adeline in a small, recreational tournamen at CSUN in Northridge, CA, about 7 or 8 years ago. She was already a force on the court, a real mixed doubles dream partner, and if I remember right, we won it. What struck me as puzzling was her positive nature, always smiling and never a negative word about her double faulting, unforced error prone partner.

This was especially interesting for me because way back in San Diego, about 15-20 years ago, when I started out at the Bobby Riggs Tennis Club, I was a real jerk on the court. I blamed my doubles partner so much for every lost point and game, she eventually walked out on me in the middle of a USTA League match. I had no fun. I played awful at the 3.5 level. It took the intervention of my good friend Danny to turn me around and to teach me how being nice to people creates fun playing tennis and enables me to actually get better. I still am grateful to Danny for taking care of me then.

Be Tenacious. Stay in the point all the way until it ends. Run for balls even though they seem out of reach. Be in it to win it.

So now I get Adeline's book and can't help thinking where was that when I needed it? May have given me a totally different perspective on tennis, life and people. On the other hand, of course, that's what it can do for other people now.

So, Adeline sets out to find positive attributes about all 77 doubles partners she played with. I assume (or hope) she didn't mention me because I didn't play on a League team with her, haha. Whether she loves "Jenny because she hits a relentless slice that makes the opponents crazy," or "Sal because he has the best hands - the opponents can never finish the point," Adeline loves them all. She has praise for hard ground strokes, speed, court ethics or penetrating returns. Together with illustrations that are actually quite charming, this makes for half the fun of this great coffeetable book.

The other half is full of wisdom, motivational quotes from inspirational people. Like, Buddha, Tony Robbins, Abraham Lincoln, Jim Rohn and many others. My favorite quote in this book is from Mother Theresa: "Kind words are short and easy to speak but their echoes are truly endlesss."

I would recommend this book to any tennis player, not only the ones struggling with directing their temperament at their partner instead of their opponents. As a coffeetable book it's a great read and a constant reminder that tennis is supposed to be fun!

Be Fun. Remember that tennis is your hobby and if you want to have a good time you have to BE a good time.
