SINGLES - Garcia Conquers Konta In First BNP Paribas Open Upset
No.21 seed Caroline Garcia outlasts top-ranked Brit Johanna Konta to advance into the fourth round at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in a three set thriller.
No.21 seed Caroline Garcia recovered from a set down to survive No.11 seed Johanna Konta, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(1), to reach the fourth round of the BNP Paribas Open for the second time in three years.
"Not too much!" she joked when asked how much confidence this win will give her. "For now, the beginning of the season is still quite difficult, so I'm taking things match by match. Every win is very important, so I'll enjoy tomorrow and get ready for the next one."

SINGLES - Pliskova Battles Past Begu, Meets Marathon Woman Bacsinszky In Indian Wells
Karolina Pliskova navigated through a tight second set to ease into the round of 16; she'll next play Timea Bacsinszky, who won a three-set thriller earlier at the BNP Paribas Open.
No.3 seed Karolina Pliskova showed signs of improvement after her tough opening round win, easing past No.29 seed Irina-Camelia Begu, 6-4, 7-6(2) to reach the fourth round at the BNP Paribas Open for a third straight year.
"There were some ups and downs," she said after the match. "I had 13 break points or however many in the first set, which took an hour, so it was quite difficult. I was feeling comfortable on serve, even though my first serve wasn't great. I was up 3-1 in the second and took a little bit of a timeout and played a terrible few games.

SINGLES - Anything Is Pospisil - Canadian Shocks Murray
Qualifier scores career-best win on Saturday at Indian Wells
Qualifier Vasek Pospisil claimed the biggest win of his career in dramatic fashion on Saturday night at the BNP Paribas Open as he stunned World No. 1 Andy Murray 6-4, 7-6(5) to reach the third round in Indian Wells.
"If I pick a handful of great moments in my career, this is definitely one of them," said Pospisil. "To beat the No. 1 player and somebody as accomplished as Andy, one of the greats of the game, is amazing."
The Canadian has endured a turbulent 12 months, seeing his position in the Emirates ATP Rankings drop to No. 135, having been as high as No. 25 three years ago. But under the guidance of new coach Mark Woodforde, whom he began working with in late 2016, Pospisil looked to be back in his best form as he held on to defeat Murray in one hour and 51 minutes.

DOUBLES - Kyrgios/Zimonjic Shock Bryans In Indian Wells
Aussie-Serbian duo prevail in team debut.
Nick Kyrgios and Nenad Zimonjic proved to be a winning combination on the doubles court as they upset second seeds and two-time former champions Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan, 6-4, 3-6, 10-7, in the first round of the BNP Paribas Open on Saturday.
The Australian/Serbian duo struck 13 aces as they prevailed in 69 minutes against the Bryans, who lifted the trophy in Indian Wells in 2013-14. Kyrgios is searching for his first ATP World Tour doubles crown alongside a stalwart of the game. The 40-year-old Zimonjic is a winner of 54 tour-level doubles titles, and is a two-time runner-up in the desert.

Tournament abbreviations

WC
= wildcard (given by the tournament to a player that could not get in on their ranking, or did not enter in time.

PR = protected ranking. This is used when a player has been out for a certain period of time due to injury (I think it's at least 6 months) and their ranking slips down to where they wouldn't get in on their current ranking.

Q = Qualifier.

A = Alternate. Used in qualifying when a player withdraws before their first match. Also used in main draw if there was no qualifying draw and the draw was full before the player withdrew.

LL = Lucky loser. A player that loses in qualifying (usually the final round unless none of the final round losers sign the lucky loser list) and gets into main draw when a main draw player withdraws before their first match.

SE = Special exempt. A player who signed into qualifying of a tournament, but was still playing in the previous week's tournament at the time the qualifying draw was done. This player can get a special exempt into the main draw the following week.
