SINGLES - Pliskova Conquers Wozniacki
To Claim Eighth Career Title In Doha
No.2 seed
Karolina Pliskova put together a dominating performance over
Caroline Wozniacki to take home her eighth career title - and
her second of 2017 - at the Qatar Total Open.
The Dane
went into their final matchup with a 3-0 lead in the pair's head-to-head
record, but Pliskova didn't read the script and overpowered the
former World No.1, 6-3, 6-4.
"I think I'm having a great start to the year, which is
always important," Pliskova said after the match.
"To beat players like Cibulkova and Wozniacki is something
amazing. I've never beat them before, but I was trying really
hard this week so I'm really happy with my wins here."
SINGLES - Pliskova Soars To 2nd
Title of 2017 In Doha
WTA Insider
Courtney Nguyen | Hear from Karolina Pliskova as she discussed
braving a rainy week in Qatar to claim her eighth career title
and move up on the RTS leaderboard.
World
No.3 Karolina Pliskova became the first woman to win two titles
in 2017 after a gritty title run at the Qatar Total Open. The
24-year-old scored back-to-back wins over Dominika Cibulkova
and Caroline Wozniacki to take home the trophy, her first career-wins
over either player.
By winning her second Premier title of the season, Pliskova has
now won 15 of 16 matches in 2017 (including Fed Cup) and is projected
to rise to No.2 on the Road To Singapore leaderboard on Monday,
moving ahead of Australian Open finalist Venus Williams.
Basking in the glow of both her victory and the very welcome
sunshine at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, Pliskova
sat down with WTA Insider to debrief her outstanding start to
the season.
Q: You won
the title just 14 hours ago and now you're in Dubai. That's a
quick turnaround.
Pliskova: Well definitely better weather here. I just came an
hour ago from the airport but the weather has been amazing compared
to Doha. There it was really cold and rainy the whole week, so
enjoying so far Dubai and enjoying my win from last night.

SINGLES - Tsonga Reigns In Rotterdam
Frenchman
rallies past David Goffin for 13th ATP World Tour title
Jo-Wilfried
Tsonga wasn't satisfied in capturing his 400th match win this
week at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament. The Frenchman announced
his arrival to the exclusive club with victory No. 401 on Sunday,
claiming an impressive 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 comeback over David Goffin
for the title.
Tsonga secured his 13th ATP World Tour crown and second at the
500 level (Tokyo 2009), ending a two-year title drought with
a strong statement on the indoor hard courts of Rotterdam. On
Saturday, the sixth seed downed Tomas Berdych to notch tour-level
victory No. 400 and on Sunday he became the first Frenchman to
triumph at the Ahoy Rotterdam since Michael Llodra in 2008.
DOUBLES - Dodig / Granollers Crowned
Rotterdam Champions
Veterans
Dodig/Granollers are a new team on tour for 2017
Ivan
Dodig and Marcel Granollers have clinched their first ATP World
Tour title as a pairing at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament
with a 7-6(5), 6-3 victory over Dutch wild card team Wesley Koolhof
and Matwe Middelkoop.
Dodig/Granollers, playing just their second event together, had
dispatched top seeds Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert
for a place in the Rotterdam final, whilst Koolhof/Middelkoop
were looking to add to their Apia International Sydney trophy
they won last month.
With no breaks, a tie-break was required to separate these in-form
pairings in the opening set and the third seeds managed to edge
ahead. They struck instantly in set two to build a 2-0 lead,
an advantage they maintained until closing out the title in 73
minutes.

SINGLES - Dolgopolov Completes Dream
Week In Buenos Aires
Ukrainian
defeats Nishikori for first title since 2012
Alexandr
Dolgopolov arrived at the Argentina Open with just one win in
his past 11 matches, but leaves Buenos Aires as champion after
defeating top seed Kei Nishikori 7-6(5), 6-4 in Sunday's final.
With his remarkable
turn in form this week, the Ukrainian earns his third ATP World
Tour singles title and his first since prevailing in Washington,
D.C., in July 2012. He also picks up his first win against his
Japanese opponent, having lost all five of their previous FedEx
ATP Head2Head meetings in straight sets. Dolgopolov gains 250
Emirates ATP Rankings points and receives a cheque for $97,470.
Dolgopolov didn't
drop a set throughout the week and advanced through a challenging
draw. He defeated second seed Pablo Cuevas in the second-round
and fourth seed Pablo Carreno Busta in the semi-finals before
taking out Nishikori. Dolgopolov also handed Nishikori his first
to a player outside the Top 50 since 2014, ending a 50-match
win streak.
DOUBLES - Cabal / Farah Rule Again

The Colombians
have won their past eight matches at the Argentina Open
Juan
Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah have defended their Argentina
Open title with a comprehensive 6-1, 6-4 win over third seeds
Santiago Gonzalez and David Marrero on Sunday.
The top seeds

triumph over Italians Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini in the
semi-finals to book an 18th ATP World Tour final together.
The Colombians dictated play against
Gonzalez/Marrero
by winning 88 per cent of points on first serve and broke three
times to wrap up the victory on the one-hour mark.

Tournament abbreviations
WC = wildcard
(given by the tournament to a player that could not get in on
their ranking, or did not enter in time.
PR = protected ranking. This is used when a player
has been out for a certain period of time due to injury (I think
it's at least 6 months) and their ranking slips down to where
they wouldn't get in on their current ranking.
Q = Qualifier.
A = Alternate. Used in qualifying when a player
withdraws before their first match. Also used in main draw if
there was no qualifying draw and the draw was full before the
player withdrew.
LL = Lucky loser. A player that loses in qualifying
(usually the final round unless none of the final round losers
sign the lucky loser list) and gets into main draw when a main
draw player withdraws before their first match.
SE = Special exempt. A player who signed into qualifying
of a tournament, but was still playing in the previous week's
tournament at the time the qualifying draw was done. This player
can get a special exempt into the main draw the following week. |
