SINGLES - Venus Rises Into Last Eight In Australia
Former World No.1 Venus Williams reached her second Australian Open quarterfinal in the last three years with a decisive win over qualifier Mona Barthel.
No.13 seed and 2003 Australian Open runner-up Venus Williams returned to the last eight Down Under with a 6-3, 7-5 win over a resurgent Mona Barthel.
Venus was playing in the second week of her fourth straight major tournament against a former World No.23 who spent most of 2016 off the tour due to a prolonged battle with illness.
Still, the German was enjoying her best-ever Grand Slam result as a qualifier, knocking out reigning Olympic champion Monica Puig in the second round.

SINGLES - Konta Knocks Out Wozniacki, Returns To Round Four In Australia
No.9 seed Johanna Konta surged past former No.1 Caroline Wozniacki to book her spot in the second week at the Australian Open.
2016 semifinalist Johanna Konta raced through a much-anticipated collision with former World No.1 Caroline Wozniacki, 6-3, 6-1, to return to the second week at the Australian Open.
"Against someone like Caroline, she's not going to give it to you," she said in her post-match press conference. "You really do have to earn it and win it till the very last point. I'm just very happy I was able to keep that pressure on."
Konta rode a seven-match winning streak into the third round in Melbourne, having captured her second career WTA title at the Apia International Sydney last week.
"I think I had a longer streak a couple years ago. Still got awhile to go till then," she said, referring to a 16 match winning streak she compiled in the summer of 2015 between the ITF and WTA circuits. "But I'm very pleased with how I've just been able to problem solve in the last matches that I've played, really play myself into matches where I felt I started slowly, and, like today, maintain the level.

SINGLES - Dimitrov Breezes Into Round Of 16 At 2 A.M.
Bulgarian improves to 8-0 in 2017.
Grigor Dimitrov was eager to avoid a late-night marathon at the Australian Open on Saturday, dispatching 18th seed Richard Gasquet 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 in two hours and two minutes to advance to the fourth round.
After Rafael Nadal's five-set victory over Alexander Zverev extended the day session on Rod Laver Arena, Dimitrov and Gasquet didn't get underway until 11:58 p.m. local time in Melbourne. The seventh battle between two of the more majestic one-handed backhands on tour would go the way of the Bulgarian in convincing fashion. He fired 48 winners, including 11 aces, while turning aside six of seven break points faced. He continued his impressive start to the season, remaining undefeated (8-0) after lifting his fifth ATP World Tour trophy in Brisbane two weeks ago.

SINGLES - Istomin: "It Means So Much To Me"
World No. 117 records the biggest win of his career.
In an instant, 25 years of hard graft were rewarded when Denis Istomin scored the biggest win of his career over Novak Djokovic, Mr Australian Open. It justified his persistence, dedication and perseverance as a pro.
"It means so much for me, of course, to beat the World No. 2," said Istomin, following his five-set win on Thursday. "I just I hope that is not the only one victory of mine. I will try to keep going the same way and trying to win some more."
The World No. 117 never expected to out-perform the six-time champion at Melbourne Park, but he did believe he could compete. "If you don't think that you have a chance, then there is no reason to come onto the court," the 30-year-old explained. "Of course, I am also working hard, trying to do my best and I did today."

Murray: 'It Just Wasn't To Be Today'
World No. 1 falls in 4R for first time since 2009
Andy Murray's first Australian Open title will have to wait another year after the Scot fell to German Mischa Zverev 7-5, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 during the fourth round. But Murray didn't have a list of excuses or regrets to discuss following his earliest exit in Melbourne since 2009, when he also lost in the Round of 16.
"I had some opportunities at the end. I think the last two service games I had chances. Maybe three service games in the last set I had opportunities," Murray said. "But then he came back from all of the mistakes that he made, kept coming up with great shots. There's not too much you can do about that. Sometimes you got to say, 'Well played'. It was obviously disappointing to lose. But he did some good stuff out there."

Zverev Stuns Murray To Reach First Major QF
German records breakthrough win on Rod Laver Arena
The fairytale run continued for Mischa Zverev as he produced a bold display of tennis on Sunday to shock top seed Andy Murray 7-5, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 in the fourth round of the Australian Open in Melbourne.
"It was definitely the best match of my life," said Zverev. "Not only because it was a best-of-five set match, it was at a slam. It was just incredible."
It was an inspired serve-and-volley performance from Zverev, who had watched from the player box as his younger brother, Alexander Zverev, pushed Rafael Nadal to five sets on Saturday. With the win, Mischa Zverev moves into his first Grand Slam quarter-final. He now plays No. 17 seed Roger Federer, who beat fifth seed Kei Nishikori 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-1 4-6, 6-3. Federer leads their FedEx ATP Head2Head rivalry 2-0.

Tournament abbreviations

WC
= wildcard (given by the tournament to a player that could not get in on their ranking, or did not enter in time.

PR = protected ranking. This is used when a player has been out for a certain period of time due to injury (I think it's at least 6 months) and their ranking slips down to where they wouldn't get in on their current ranking.

Q = Qualifier.

A = Alternate. Used in qualifying when a player withdraws before their first match. Also used in main draw if there was no qualifying draw and the draw was full before the player withdrew.

LL = Lucky loser. A player that loses in qualifying (usually the final round unless none of the final round losers sign the lucky loser list) and gets into main draw when a main draw player withdraws before their first match.

SE = Special exempt. A player who signed into qualifying of a tournament, but was still playing in the previous week's tournament at the time the qualifying draw was done. This player can get a special exempt into the main draw the following week.
