SINGLES - Dominant Kvitova
Crowned Zhuhai Champion
No.2 seed
Petra Kvitova overcame a slow start to lift the Huajin Securities
WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai with a straight-set win over Elina Svitolina
on Sunday.
Last month, Kvitova marked her return to form by powering to
the Wuhan title, and she was every bit as impressive in Zhuhai,
dispatching Svitolina, 6-4, 6-2, in just an hour and 10 minutes.
Svitolina sits only one place behind Kvitova in the current rankings,
but lost all three of their meetings this season. And despite
failing an early service break behind, Kvitova soon resumed this
dominance, five unanswered games giving her the opening set as
she hurtled towards the 19th title of her career.
Champions Corner:
rejuvenated Kvitova Revels In Zhuhai Triumph
Petra Kvitova
concluded a stellar Asian Swing with yet another title, taking
home the Huajin Securities WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai crown after
a 6-4, 6-2. The former World No.2 and Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open
winner moved up to No.11 on the WTA rankings, and is eager to
make up for lost ground at the start of next season.
WTA Insider caught up with Kvitova after her emphatic win over
Svitolina to talk about the Wuhan-Zhuhai double, what it means
to find herself on the tennis court, and why she'll key in on
improving her serve and return during the off-season.
DOUBLES - Soylu/Xu
Win Zhuhai Title
Kvitova was
not the only No.2 seed to taste shine in Zhuhai. In the doubles
final, Ipek Soylu and Xu Yifan overcame wildcards Yang Zhaoxuan
and You Xiaodi, 6-4, 3-6, 10-7.

SINGLES - Murray Claims
14th Masters 1000 Crown In Paris
One day after
securing the World No. 1 position in the Emirates ATP Rankings,
Andy Murray added another first to his growing resume, defeating
John Isner for his maiden title at the BNP Paribas Mastersin
Paris. Murray prevailed 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-4 in a thrilling two-hour
and 18-minute final.
Murray claimed his eighth tour-level crown of the year and 43rd
in total. He notched a 14th ATP World Tour Masters 1000 title
and joins Tim Henman (2003) and Greg Rusedski (1998) as British
winners in Paris.
Murray is undefeated
in eight FedEx ATP Head2Head encounters with Isner. This year,
the 29 year old also prevailed in the Round of 16 at Roland Garros
and two weeks ago in the Vienna quarter-finals. The No. 1 player
in Emirates ATP Race To London will turn to the final event of
the 2016 season, looking to lift the trophy on home soil at the
Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. In addition to 1,000 points,
he earns 746,550 in prize money.
DOUBLES - Kontinen/Peers
Capture First Masters 1000 Crown
Henri Kontinen
and John Peers continued their late-season surge on Sunday, winning
their first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 team title at the BNP
Paribas Masters in Paris.
The unseeded Kontinen/Peers knocked off top-seeded Frenchmen
Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut 6-4, 3-6, 10-6 in front
of a partisan French crowd. The Finnish/Australian duo struck
11 aces and outplayed Herbert/Mahut in the Match Tie-break, leading

Tournament abbreviations
WC = wildcard
(given by the tournament to a player that could not get in on
their ranking, or did not enter in time.
PR = protected ranking. This is used when a player
has been out for a certain period of time due to injury (I think
it's at least 6 months) and their ranking slips down to where
they wouldn't get in on their current ranking.
Q = Qualifier.
A = Alternate. Used in qualifying when a player
withdraws before their first match. Also used in main draw if
there was no qualifying draw and the draw was full before the
player withdrew.
LL = Lucky loser. A player that loses in qualifying
(usually the final round unless none of the final round losers
sign the lucky loser list) and gets into main draw when a main
draw player withdraws before their first match.
SE = Special exempt. A player who signed into qualifying
of a tournament, but was still playing in the previous week's
tournament at the time the qualifying draw was done. This player
can get a special exempt into the main draw the following week. |
