It was a dream day for Svetlana Kuznetsova on Friday, as she not only scored her biggest win in six and a half years against Simona Halep in a rain-delayed semifinal, but she then played a near-flawless final against Monica Puig to win the Premier-level Apia International Sydney.
Just hours after completing a 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-3 semifinal victory against No.2-ranked, No.1-seeded Halep - her biggest win since defeating then-World No.1 Dinara Safina in the final of the 2009 French Open - Kuznetsova completely overpowered Puerto Rican qualifier Puig for the Sydney title, 6-0, 6-2.

(1) Martina Hingis (SUI) / Sania Mirza (IND) d (3) CarolineGarcia (FRA) / Kristina Mladenovic (FRA) 1-6, 7-5, 10-5

Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza extended their winning streak to 30 matches in a row by edging Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic in the Apia International Sydney final.
Hingis and Mirza, who already went into the match with the longest winning streak since Jana Novotnaand Helena Sukova in 1990 - they won 44 in a row - were down and out against No.3 seeds Garcia and Mladenovic, falling behind 6-1, 5-2 to one of the craftiest, hardest-hitting pairings out there.
But the No.1-seeded Hingis and Mirza fought back like they've done so many times, reeling off five games in a row to push it to a match tie-break, where they would finally end it, 1-6, 7-5, 10-5.

Alizé Cornet started her 2016 season with a flourish last week, winning theHobart International for her first title since 2014. The No.43 lost just one set all week and ran away with the title in Saturday's final, beating a resurgent Eugenie Bouchard 6-1, 6-2 for her fifth career title. So excited was the already excitable Frenchwoman, she went so far as to thank her dog Andy - a 10-year-old Jack Russell terrier named after Andy Roddick - in her victory speech. The emotions were plain to see. This meant a lot.

It was a stacked draw that featured four former champions and four players in the Top 12 of the Emirates ATP Rankings. But 25th-ranked Roberto Bautista Agut was anything but intimidated at the ASB Classic. The No. 8-seeded Spaniard defeated 2015 champ Jiri Vesely 6-3, 7-5 in the opening round; AmericanDonald Young 6-4, 7-6(3) in the second round, two-time titlist John Isner 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 in the quarters and No. 2 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 3-6, 7-6(3), 6-4 in the semis, saving a match point in the process. And on Saturday, he was simply too much for Jack Sock, who was still feeling the effects of flu-like symptoms and retired in the second set due to illness. The 6-1, 1-0 ret. Decision gave Bautista Agut the third title of his career.

Tournament abbreviations

WC
= wildcard (given by the tournament to a player that could not get in on their ranking, or did not enter in time.

PR = protected ranking. This is used when a player has been out for a certain period of time due to injury (I think it's at least 6 months) and their ranking slips down to where they wouldn't get in on their current ranking.

Q = Qualifier.

A = Alternate. Used in qualifying when a player withdraws before their first match. Also used in main draw if there was no qualifying draw and the draw was full before the player withdrew.

LL = Lucky loser. A player that loses in qualifying (usually the final round unless none of the final round losers sign the lucky loser list) and gets into main draw when a main draw player withdraws before their first match.

SE = Special exempt. A player who signed into qualifying of a tournament, but was still playing in the previous week's tournament at the time the qualifying draw was done. This player can get a special exempt into the main draw the following week.
