Victoria Azarenka stormed past
Angelique Kerber to win the 18th WTA title of her career - and
first WTA title in almost two and a half years - at the Brisbane
International.
Azarenka had been on fire all week - she lost a total of just
13 games in her four matches leading up to the final - and she
maintained that form against the No.4-seeded Kerber on Saturday
night, facing some early resistance but taking complete control
from 3-all in the first set to win, 6-3, 6-1.

Novak Djokovic made sure the lone blip on his jaw-dropping 2015
resume was a distant memory, routing rival Rafael Nadal 6-1,
6-2 for the season-opening Qatar ExxonMobil Open title.
The World No. 1 erased memories of a quarter-final exit in Doha
last year (l. to Karlovic), capturing his sixth consecutive ATP

just the 10th player in the Open Era to reach the 60-title milestone,

It was sweet revenge for Milos Raonic on Sunday in the final
of the Brisbane International presented by Suncorp as he defeated
Roger Federer 6-4, 6-4 to capture his eighth ATP World Tour title.
Twelve months ago it was Federer who prevailed when the pair
met in the Brisbane final, earning his 1000th match win. But
Raonic made a strong statement at the start of the new season
with just his second win in 11 meetings with Federer.

Tournament abbreviations
WC = wildcard
(given by the tournament to a player that could not get in on
their ranking, or did not enter in time.
PR = protected ranking. This is used when a player
has been out for a certain period of time due to injury (I think
it's at least 6 months) and their ranking slips down to where
they wouldn't get in on their current ranking.
Q = Qualifier.
A = Alternate. Used in qualifying when a player
withdraws before their first match. Also used in main draw if
there was no qualifying draw and the draw was full before the
player withdrew.
LL = Lucky loser. A player that loses in qualifying
(usually the final round unless none of the final round losers
sign the lucky loser list) and gets into main draw when a main
draw player withdraws before their first match.
SE = Special exempt. A player who signed into qualifying
of a tournament, but was still playing in the previous week's
tournament at the time the qualifying draw was done. This player
can get a special exempt into the main draw the following week. |
